Frequently asked questions (faq)

USA Wrestling age classes are 6 & under, 8 & under, 10 & under, 12 & under, and 14 & under. We have many 5-year-olds practicing and attending tournaments, but do not encourage 4-year-olds to begin competing due to maturity.

For all USA Wrestling sanctioned tournaments, your child is required to wear head gear. Singlets are available to purchase or rent at our store located at www.mcphersonwrestlingclub.com/store. Wrestling shoes are strongly recommended and are also available for rent at our store.

Our season typically starts the first week or two of November and runs through March. Practices will be all of November with tournaments beginning the first weekend of December. Postseason starts the first week of March (Districts) with State the following weekend for those who qualified.

Nope! We have several kids and families that travel outside of McPherson County to be part of our wrestling club.

Practices are held at Park School Gymnasium for the season. The Club will move over to the high school wrestling room typically around March to finish out the year.

Each child must pay Club dues to take part in practices and tournaments. These dues cover the costs of USA Wrestling membership, liability insurance, equipment, and apparel.

At the start of each season, there is a two-week grace period for kids to try out the sport without paying dues. After this period, payment is required. You can register on our website under the Registration section.

You will need to navigate to www.trackwrestling.com to register your child. Please reference the tutorials below in the Document Library section to become familiar with the process. Once you register on Track, we ask that you go to the Tournament Sign-up section of our website to fill out the form, so coaches know who all is going to each tournament to help better support them on the mat.

There currently are two criteria separation divisions within majority of tournaments which are Novice and Open.

Novice - Typically, this child has 1-2 years of experience wrestling. This division is meant for beginners to assist the kids to learn the fundamentals and learn to love the sports. If your child is winning or placing in majority of Novice tournaments, it is strongly recommended to move your child up to the Open division. Please consult our head coach for recommendations.

Open - This division is for experienced wrestlers with 3+ years of experience. Even though this division may be very challenging when you first move from Novice, this level of wrestling will take your child to the next level, and they will adapt quickly.

Yes, there are several Novice only tournaments throughout the year with the Novice Championships (1st year only) being the most popular. Majority of all tournaments offer a Novice division every weekend though!

No, you may pick and choose which tournaments you want to attend.

When registering on Trackwrestling, it's essential for parents to accurately rate their child's skill level. Tournament directors use these ratings to create brackets that ensure the fairest matches possible. Please take the time to rate your wrestler correctly so every child has the best opportunity to develop a love for the sport!

Most tournaments use the following rating scale for individual wrestlers:

  • A or Excellent: State Placer or nationally ranked
  • B or Good: State Qualifier or typically finishes in the top 3 at tournaments
  • C or Average: Average wrestler
  • D or Beginner: Beginner

The amount to register for each tournament differs, but the general range is from $20 - $35 per wrestler.

No, during the folkstyle season we require all children to wear the club singlets (State qualifiers may wear club state singlets). The reasoning is to represent MAC Wrestling Club as a team! During offseason (folkstyle, freestyle, & Greco) you may wear any custom singlet of your choice, even if you are affiliated with our club.
